How Does March Madness Speak to Creating Effective Teamwork For The Entrepreneur?

The March Madness phenomena, has a lot to teach about creating effective teamwork for the entrepreneur. Here we’ll explore several key aspects of how effective teamwork produces winning results.

The other day my friend Louis Agudo was speaking about building teams that win. He mentioned March Madness and how so often teams that are basketball nobodies can often be propelled into the winners circle.

For instance, who ever heard of Butler University? Not many people, yet in both 2010 and 2011 Butler’s men’s basketball team made it to the final NCAA championship. They are the only team in history to make it to the final four while not being a number 1 or 2 seed. The fact that they made it to the final game can only be attributed to one thing: EFFECTIVE TEAMWORK.

How Do You Build Winning Teams?

You’ve hear the old adage “There Is No I In TEAM”. While the teams that make it to the Sweet Sixteen round or the final four have loads of talent, basketball is not an individual sport. They do it on a team effort. What kind of effort?

They Have A Plan

You have to have an overarching strategy as to how you will approach your business. Be very, very clear in your plan. You have to know: Who is your market? How will you address the needs of that market? What will be the primary ways you communicate to your market?

Why Are We Training Our Business Competition? One Industry’s Solution.

The American dilemma of training our competitors is heating up but one industry has invented a solution. Dateline; 11/7/2011, CNBC’s Squawk Box has Barry Sternlicht, Chariman and CEO of Starwood Capital as a guest host. The topic is “what the heck is wrong with our economy and the utter mismanagement by government and the peddling of class warfare” .  A popular theme lately.

The training the competition part of the theme has been broadcast by business persons and politicians across the spectrum for some time now. Of course each is trying to fortify their own particular bias and position but there is a real truth to the premise. The argument goes like this: we issue student visa’s to tens of thousands of students from around the world to come and attend our universities because they (Universities) are the finest in the world.

Many of these students are very bright, entrepreneurial and would love to stay and make America their home. However we make them return to their home country where they are employed by companies that are in direct competition with American companies. We train the Competition, and we train them well. Especially in the engineering and sciences.

What To Be Thankful For – When Reality Smacks You In The Face, You’ll See Differently.

How would your annual, obligatory “what I’m thankful for” list change in substance or spirit if you were smacked in the face with a dose of reality? It’s that time of the year to take inventory. Here’s how I learned the hard way.

We have a tradition at Thanksgiving; like many families do; of going around the diner table and telling what we’re thankful for. It can be a bit tedious at times, and sometimes even shallow as cousin Bart struggles to come up with something new other than “I’m thankful for my brother and sister, and fluffy the cat and …..blah, blah, blah. Sometimes it’s humorous and frightfully honest as when the 7 year old says

Change Your Marketing Message: Increase Your Prospects

Is your marketing message attracting the people you want? A simple change in the message may be the answer. Here is a great example of how changing the words you use can change your results.

I had a professor in the seminary that use to say “words are ambiguous, but they are the least ambiguous means of communication we have as human beings.” We are accustomed to hearing that “actions speak louder than words.” That may be true but they may be shouting an unintended or misinterpreted message. Only words have the ability to get a message across clearly and concisely.

This is why we can be so moved by the words of a song or a speech or a letter from a loved one. If you’re not getting the results you want from your marketing efforts, maybe it’s time to evaluate the words you are using. Are they powerful words that uplift, create curiosity, and draw people into a conversation or message and have them wanting to know more?

Here is a video that exemplifies what a change in your  words; the message you are trying to convey; can do for attracting customers and prospects.

Your words have the ability to encourage, reveal, uplift and create a sense of trust and the desire in another

4 Tips Of Successful Entrepreneurship From Will Smith: How He Bent The Universe

Will Smith’s Mega Success did not come by accident. He learned to bend his universe and shares those tips with every entrepreneur. Someone once defined Success as “the point where preparation meets opportunity.” No one can doubt that Will Smith is one of the Super Stars of Hollywood and his success places him in the stratospheric league where very few others can exist.

He attributes his success to his study of “the patterns of the universe”. When he started his acting career, he decided he wanted to be the biggest actor in the world. He watched the top 10 highest grossing films in history. He studied them and looked for patterns. This was how he uncovered “patterns” of success and learned to “Bend The Universe.”

His tips are so simple, and ones we probably already know instinctively but for some reason we always think there has to be “more to it.” Maybe not. I’ve written a summery below but first watch his short video and see if you agree with the conclusion below.

“Our thoughts, our feelings, our dreams, our ideas are physical in the universe.”
